Valencia. The plot destined to the enlargement of the IVAM, located next to the back façade of the museum, will be opened to the public this Saturday as part of an initiative promoted by the group ‘Breakfast with pedestrians’. Its aim is to offer a space in the museum to encourage conversations and debates around breakfast with the citizens.

At 11:00 am, while the museum is still closed, the public will be able to see that something is happening inside the 2.800m2 premises. Moreover, some symbolic elements will be installed, which will link the inside and the outside of the plot. The participants are only asked to bring a mug, a chair and to share their breakfast in the plot of the IVAM.

This initiative has been organised together with the group ‘Breakfast with pedestrians’, which, in the last six years, has carried out a total of 45 events in different public spaces, such as streets, roundabouts, vacant lots or gardens in Valencia, with the aim of demonstrating “that the city is built by using it”.

This proposal for public breakfasts originated in Vienna in the nineties and has since spread around more than 25 countries as the ‘Permanent breakfast’. It arrived in Valencia in 2008 promoted by a group of architects and artists who, one Saturday a month, turn a public space into a spot where people can meet and take part in activities.
