From All the Hills Came Screams. Collective Project on the Upcoming Eclipse

29 oct. 2025 – 10 jun. 2026

Curated and coordinated by Taller Placer, From All the Hills Came Screams is a programme proposing a line of work at IVAM that grounds and activates collective reflection on natural phenomena and the social effects and echoes they generate in bodies and in the collective imagination. This proposal is literally framed between two total solar eclipses: the first took place on 8 April 2024 in North America, and the second will occur on 12 August 2026 across a strip stretching from Galicia to the Balearic Islands, passing through the Valencian Community. Throughout the 2025–26 academic year, the programme—conceived as a cycle—will put forward a one-off, unrepeatable call to prepare for and celebrate the upcoming eclipse as “the ultimate invitation.”

The programme is conceived as a shared curatorship, unfolding through a series of joyful encounters and workshops whose purpose is to engage with “the supersensitive”: that which lies beyond our sensitivity and beyond our natural and acquired understanding. There will be events open to the general public, as well as more intimate, closed working sessions for a small group. The programme is structured around a Festivals Committee, which will meet regularly at IVAM to think collectively about the extraordinary event of the eclipse and the power of its call.

On 12 August 2026, for a brief interval of two minutes, the sun will disappear completely, giving us a chance to experience an event that will not occur again in this territory for another 400 years. This is why we want to prepare for it.

REGISTRATION:  To take part in the selection process for the Festivals Committee, applicants must send a letter explaining their motivation for joining the project to reserves_ext@ivam.es. The deadline for receiving applications is 6 October.

Taller Placer is an artistic collective founded in 2017 by the artist and researcher Vicente Arlandis and the actress and creator Paula Miralles. From this platform, they promote the use and creation of different kinds of practices that are critical in themselves and that can be used as tools for social and personal transformation. They develop their projects along several lines, including research projects, artistic creation, training workshops, live arts programming, artistic mediation initiatives and other activities that serve as an excuse to be together. In this sense, Taller Placer is a space for sharing different tools that may be useful in building fuller, more pleasurable ways of life. Together, they have developed projects in collaboration with leading institutions in the field of live arts, such as Centro Conde Duque in Madrid and La Mutant Espai d’Arts Vives, as well as in the field of visual arts with institutions including the IVAM and the Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofía, among others.
