Presentation of ‘Writing with Threads’ by the artist Andrea Canepa

As part of the exhibition Anni and Josef Albers. Art and Life, the artist Andrea Canepa was invited to engage in a dialogue with Anni Albers’ work, resulting in a site-specific piece, On Weaving, which will be on view in the IVAM lobby from May 12.

Complementing this intervention, Andrea Canepa will give the talk Writing with Threads, where she will share her interest in textiles as a transmitter of meaning, along with a review of some of her most recent works in which textile and coding play a central role.

Biography
Andrea Canepa (Lima, 1980) began her studies in Fine Arts at the Pontifical Catholic University of Peru and completed them at the Polytechnic University of Valencia, where she earned a Master’s degree in Visual and Multimedia Arts. In 2020, she received a research grant from the Senate of Culture and Europe in Berlin.

Her awards include the ARCO Comunidad de Madrid Prize for Young Artists (2014), the Miquel Casablancas Prize (2014), the Generaciones Prize (2013), and the Endesa Grant for Plastic Arts in Spain (2013). She has participated in residencies at Gasworks (UK), MATADERO (Spain), Cité des Arts (France), Tokyo Wonder Site (Japan), Beta Local (Puerto Rico), Bauhaus Master’s Houses (Germany), Jan Van Eyck Academie (Netherlands), and the Spanish Academy in Rome (Italy).

Her works are held in collections such as CA2M, IVAM, and the Museo Provincial de Teruel, as well as in foundations including Endesa, Montemadrid, DKV, and Inelcom (Spain), the Bauhaus Dessau Foundation (Germany), and MASM (Peru).
