Conferences

Presentation by Ellef Prestsæter, curator of the exhibition; Jacob Thage, director of Museum Jorn; and Nuria Enguita, director of IVAM, accompanied by artists Michael Murtaugh and Nicolas Malevé (from the Institute for Computational Vandalism) and Anna Sofie Mathiasen.

Open Creation and Its Enemies: Asger Jorn in Situation showcases the unique trajectory of Danish artist Asger Jorn (1914–1973), a founding member of avant-garde movements such as Cobra and the Situationist International. While often celebrated as an extraordinary painter, the remarkable breadth of Jorn’s practice warrants broader exploration. The exhibition makes the experimental parameters of Jorn’s multiple activities legible, tracing his departures and returns to painting.

The exhibition includes works commissioned by Danish artist Anna Sofie Mathiasen and the Scandinavian Institute for Comparative Vandalism (SICV), invited to engage with Jorn’s legacy from a contemporary perspective. Developed in close collaboration with Museum Jorn in Silkeborg and curated by art historian Ellef Prestsæter, the exhibition is accompanied by a comprehensive book presenting translations of canonical and unpublished texts by Jorn, alongside new perspectives on his practice.
