The ,useum as an ally | 6th Meeting on the Exchange of Didactic Experiences in Plastic, Visual, and Audiovisual Education
The annual gathering of secondary education professionals in plastic, visual, and audiovisual arts is a training initiative organized by the CEFIRE for the artistic-expressive field, the Valencian Association of Drawing Teachers, and IVAM.
From the museum’s perspective, IVAM engages with the aim of opening its space to debate, participation, and artistic creation research developed within formal education.
This sixth edition of the educators’ meeting focused on the relationship and potential action-reaction between the museum institution and the school, under the theme The Museum as an Ally. New approaches to mediation and education in museums—linked to the emancipation of the educational narrative from curatorial frameworks—have encouraged the emergence of numerous mediation projects in collaboration with schools. For schools, this requires rethinking their role and positioning themselves in relation to this educational shift taking place in some cultural institutions, beyond guided or contemplative visits.
What lessons can be learned from active collaboration? What is the role of teachers and museum education professionals? Can participation evolve into becoming an agent of change?
