Jean Dubuffet. A barbarian in Europe
Gallery 1. IVAM. 2019

Jean Dubuffet’s exhibition “A barbarian in Europe”, curated by Baptiste Brun, set out a journey through the room, contrasting all the artist’s periods, bringing together creations as disparate as a 1950 canvas among tribal fetishes and masks. Objects from Dubuffet’s own collection that questioned the public about what we can call art. He found in the creations of isolated people, lonely old people, hospital patients and children raised in orphanages, what he considered, with optimism and great daring, an art free from the weight of cultural references. In my opinion, the best exhibition of 2019.
