Past Things and Present: Jasper Johns since 1983

Exhibition

This exhibition, organised by the Walker Art Centre in Minneapolis, comprises almost a hundred works by this American artist, who, together with Rauschenberg, paved the way for Pop Art and the Neo-Dada movement. Since he made his famous flags and targets in the fifties until the present day, he has contributed to the revolution stirred up in our artistic experience by offering us his own personal iconography with its subtle strength and its great irony, which has been universally accepted and made him a fundamental figure in the development of contemporary art. Jasper Johns took a decisive step in rejecting pictorial artifice by his insistence, basic in much of contemporary art, on considering an artwork as a reality in its own right.
