Conversation on the occasion of the opening of the exhibition “Volcano of Agrás. Mining Rights” by Lara Almarcegui
Conversation between the artist Lara Almarcegui and the art critic Mariana Cánepa from the curatorial office Latitudes.
The specific project that the artist Lara Almarcegui (Zaragoza, 1972) has developed for the IVAM Gallery 6 focuses her attention on mining rights. For this purpose, the Agrás volcano in Cofrentes, which was exploited as a quarry by the cement industry from the mid-seventies to the eighties, has been used as a research site.
Almarcegui proposes a reflection around the ownership of the rights of exploration and investigation of the minerals, rights that are of public property and are managed by the administrations. In addition, in order to contextualize this project within her trajectory, other works by the artist on mining rights in other countries such as Norway or Austria are included in the exhibition.
