Sheila Girling

Exhibition

Born into a strong linked to the art world, Sheila Girling began her artistic studies at Birmingham School of Art and the Royal Academy School in London during the fifties. In her first works she experimented with the new possibilities afforded by acrylic paint and, after these early series of swift intuitive works, in the late eighties Sheila Girling began to use collage as the main part of her works. The collage technique gave Girling new freedom, permitting her to make unpredictable images that are, at the same time, subject to radical change. The exhibition presented at the IVAM comprises a selection of works from all her series and artistic periods, and is the first exhibition of this artist to be held at a Spanish museum.
