History leaves a mark, a trace that is not always visible to all eyes. With “Down to the affected level” (2018), Patricia Gómez and María Jesús González managed to rescue the past lives of Gallery 6 of the museum, literally peeling its walls as if they were a piece fruit. It was a true work of archaeology that spoke of the institution’s past through the colours of its walls and a diagram about the administrative ins and outs. Today I remember this work for its visual and poetic power. Working with the place and the context is essential.
