The proposal for the Tuesday film screenings at IVAM is conceived with the goal of turning the museum into an interdisciplinary space that sparks a conversation between the arts and the museum as an arena for contemporary creation. Curated by Las Entendidas, the programme presents a monthly selection of audiovisual works of artistic and social interest that find little—or no—room in the city’s exhibition circuits, and that therefore appear as a rara avis, making IVAM a distinctive meeting place. The project hopes to foster a horizontal, engaging and approachable conversation, bringing to the city creators and proposals never seen before, while also supporting local creative networks and projects from Valencia. In addition, the cycle will invite a number of special guests, creators, filmmakers and professionals from the audiovisual industry, in order to offer an encounter built around the screening and discussion of their work.
Each screening session will be accompanied by an introduction and a discussion open to the general public. However, as the project wishes to become an expanded film club that builds a loyal following and encourages regular attendance, it also includes activities beyond the monthly shared viewing for a resident group, La cinefilia del IVAM. This stable group, formed through a prior selection process and open registration, will take part in thematic sessions linked to the programme, expanding the space for discussion by introducing additional cinematic and cultural references that enrich the experience. Furthermore, members of La cinefilia del IVAM will receive a specialised quarterly newsletter (Más que una pregunta, una reflexión), extending the content of the sessions and complementing them with other formats to be explored outside the museum.
The aim is to make IVAM a place for collectively thinking about the viewing experience, a space to share concerns and to explore themes and new obsessions, to connect audiovisuals with other disciplines and fields of thought, and to break down the boundaries of the museum in order to bring it closer to a lived, communal experience.
Las Entendidas (Adriana Cabeza and Alexia Guillot, graduates in Audiovisual Communication and Art History, respectively) reflect on audiovisual culture through Instagram, offering a critical perspective shaped by their distinctive viewpoint as spectators. They currently combine hosting film introductions and post-screening discussions in cinemas (Cines Lys, Babel) and cultural centres (CaixaForum) with their work as film and series specifiers on the radio (every Thursday on À Punt Ràdio) and in digital media.
REGISTRATION: To join the La cinefilia del IVAM group, applicants must send a letter explaining their motivation for taking part in the project to reserves_ext@ivam.es. The deadline for receiving applications is 29 September. Acceptance into the programme will be nofitied after 1 October.
