Urban landscape in the IVAM photography collection

Exhibition

We have arranged this journey in the same way that the young Venetian related his expeditions in the domains of the Emperor of the Tartars to the Great Khan in Italo Calvino’s Invisible Cities. All cities are the same, taking the features that characterise them from their utopian version. If we give them names it is to become aware of them, for what exists is what we are able to name, and pictures give form to what they evoke. Thus this visit is a journey that has several stages. It might have been a chronological account, but we have preferred to pursue a poetic path through its symbolic cartography. So, intrigued by the skilful way in which these photographers see, we change our way of viewing the city, in search of a captive utopia.
