After all, tomorrow is another day
Jorge Pineda
His lyrical/narrative conceptual proposals include a stimulating critical analysis of the system and of contemporary society which takes the human being as the central focus. The result of this composition provides disturbing installations which, despite the uneasiness that they transmit, always convey small amounts of faith and hope that help to overcome what is presented to us initially as tragic and chaotic. Jorge Pineda studied architecture at the Autonomous University of Santo Domingo between 1978 and 1981, and lithography at the Bordas studio in Paris in 1989. He has had solo shows in Gijón, Lima, Lyon, Madrid, Santo Domingo and New York, where he presented his personal project Shadows and Other Fairy Tales last September at the Hunter College East Harlem Art Gallery. His work is in the collections of the MUSAC, DA2, IVAM, Museo de Arte Moderno de Santo Domingo and Colección Patricia Phelps de Cisneros, among others. He has taken part in the Biennale di Venezia, Bienal de Cuenca, Bienal de Lima, Bienal de La Habana and Bienal del Fin del Mundo, in the last case with the Quintapata group. Since 2009 he has been a member of this group, which currently includes Pascal Meccariello, Raquel Paiewonsky and Belkis Ramírez. Jorge Pineda lives and works in Santo Domingo and Madrid.
