La Valencia del tranvía

The present exhibition explores Valencian identity by analysing contrasts, harmonies and tensions of life in an expanding city as Valencia. Thus, the path proposed by these images goes beyond the visual ground and into the literary field, where they are taken by poetry and narrative arts. This sample of social and urban photography from the beginning of the last century is embedded in lyricism. It is focused on the daily traces around us, which would not have the same significance without the photographic icon. The city, from that point of view, has the key to open the history and it shows us how things have changed until the present times. In this particular situation, the sample allow visitors to feel part of a city that needed to expand its horizons. The works of Joan Antoni Vicent reveal a city full of nuance where the sky and the sea are enveloped in historic urbanism. Through them, we will be able to remember what we were by walking again for places that do not exist anymore or that have been transformed.
