Julio González en la Colección del IVAM

Exhibition

Julio González (Barcelona, 1876 – Paris, 1942) is one of the foremost sculptors of the 20th century. His not very abundant work is distributed among the major modern art museums; especially outstanding are the collections in the Musée National d’Art Moderne, Centre Georges Pompidou (Paris), the Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofía (Madrid) and the Museum of Modern Art in New York. The most important collection of Julio González’s work is that of the IVAM, made up of almost 400 pieces (between sculptures, drawings, paintings and jewellery) from different purchases, but fundamentally from the donations of Carmen Martínez and Viviane Grimminger, the artist’s heiresses. The IVAM also conserves work by Julio’s brother, Joan González (Barcelona, 1868-1908), and his daughter, Roberta González. One of the IVAM galleries in the Centre Julio González is dedicated to the permanent exhibition of the sculptor’s works. Every year a specialist of repute presents his personal view of the artist there. The curator of the exhibition that can be visited at present is Tomàs Llorens.
