This is work that moves us, harsh work, intimate and painful, personal and collective, in which many edges and facets remain hidden or invisible, but work that for many of us feels very close. Something that attracts us and at the same time makes us afraid. For this major exhibition, strong support has been provided by the British Council in Spain, Maureen Paley, London, Regen Projects, Los Angeles, Tanya Bonakdar, New York and the Fundación la Caixa Collection, and it is the result of the valuable collaboration of the curator of the exhibition, Sacha Craddock (British teacher and art critic), the theorist Mark Fisher (who teaches at Goldsmiths College in London) and, most especially, Gillian Wearing herself, who with her support, enthusiasm and commitment has made this undertaking a wonderful, unforgettable adventure. To all of them (and to the IVAM team headed by Raquel Gutiérrez and Marta Arroyo), my most sincere gratitude and my warmest congratulations for the results achieved. 8
