Su compromiso con los nuevos valores del humanismo frente a las tendencias autoritarias sigue justificando que el IVAM dedique una de sus salas permanentes a sus logros constructivos. Supo poner su dominio t\u00e9cnico de la forja y la soldadura al servicio de una visi\u00f3n in\u00e9dita de la forma que incorporaba las posibilidades expresivas del vac\u00edo. Su trabajo tridimensional, que defini\u00f3 como \u201cdibujar en el espacio\u201d, nunca abandon\u00f3 su inter\u00e9s por la figura humana en toda su complejidad emotiva y existencial.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">En 1936 y 1937 asistimos a la culminaci\u00f3n de las proclamas de la nueva sensibilidad moderna integrando los avances vanguardistas de las primeras d\u00e9cadas alrededor de los conceptos surrealistas y de la abstracci\u00f3n. La Exposici\u00f3n Universal y la muestra dedicada a los or\u00edgenes y desarrollo del arte internacional independiente, ambas celebradas en Par\u00eds en 1937, proporcionar\u00e1n sendos escenarios privilegiados para mostrar el impacto social y la capacidad comunicativa de estas v\u00edas de modernizaci\u00f3n y progreso. Julio Gonz\u00e1lez particip\u00f3 en las dos manifestaciones. En primer lugar, pens\u00f3 en exhibir su escultura de gran formato <em>Femme au miroir (Mujer ante el espejo)<\/em> en el pabell\u00f3n espa\u00f1ol de la muestra universal. Sin embargo, las dudas del comit\u00e9 organizador lo convencieron para que la sustituyera por una obra de mayor dramatismo como la <em>Montserrat<\/em>.
