IVAM.2019<\/h4>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">On the occasion of the 30th anniversary of the Valencian Institute of Modern Art (IVAM), it was logical to make an exhibition about Julio Gonz\u00e1lez. But it seemed to me especially wise that it was curated by Sergio Rubira, Jos\u00e9 Salvador and Irene Bonilla. With the title \u201c<a href=\"\/en\/exposiciones\/julio-gonzalez-and-the-avant-gardes\/\">Matter, space and time. Julio Gonz\u00e1lez and the avant-gardes<\/a>\u201d, this exhibition connected the museum\u2019s founding figure, and its collections, with artists such as Picasso, Schwitters, Brancusi, Calder, Lipchitz, Gargallo and David Smith. In a kind of compendium of creators to whom IVAM dedicated exhibitions throughout its history, and who expressed themselves through sculpture, as Julio Gonz\u00e1lez did, this exhibition was the essential reminder of an iron avant-garde, the works of which had a figurative (like Gonz\u00e1lez\u2019s Montserrat) and abstract (like Woman in front of a mirror) intention, while still being modern, and they always will be.<strong><br \/>\nAdolf Beltr\u00e1n<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong>eldiariocv.es<\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>&nbsp; Matter, space and time.
