This boundary space has been built in the cultural imaginaries of Mediterranean territories, marked by the development of history and sociocultural events. Present moments push us to ask ourselves about the current vision that exists around the Mediterranean and how it is changing according to the different socio-political conditions.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Imagining the Mediterranean <\/strong>congress<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>emerges with the aim of knowing, building and developing new narratives and structures in the XXI century with past times in mind. For this, a deepening of the different areas related to this cultural and artistic space is proposed, based on the presence of diverse theoretical and artistic profiles from different geographies.<\/p>\n<p>The content will be organized in guest conferences and tables of communications, selected through an international call. The idea is to display a plurality of identities and actives points of view.<\/p>\n<p>The main purpose of this congress is to create a meeting place where a network of contacts can be initiated. Furthermore,\u00a0knowledge and experiences exchanges will be carried out\u00a0in order to enhance communication networks in the Mediterranean context.<\/p>\n<h4 class=\"text-left\">INVITED SPEAKERS<\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Nicolas Bourriaud, <\/strong>theorist and director of Espace d&#8217;Art Contemporain La Panac\u00e9e (Montpellier).<strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Pedro Azara, <\/strong>architect and professor of Aesthetics at ETSAB<\/li>\n<li><strong>Begum \u00d6zden Firat, <\/strong>professor in the Sociology Department in Mimar Sinan Fine Arts University (Istambul) and resercher.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Maria Muracciole, <\/strong>director of\u00a0Beirut Art Center and curator.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Nadira Laggoune, <\/strong>director of\u00a0MAMA (Mus\u00e9e Public National d\u2019Art Moderne et Contemporain d\u2019Alger) and curator and professor.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h4 class=\"text-left\">CALL FOR PAPERS<\/h4>\n<p>Proposals for papers may be theoretical, artistic and research works related to imaginaries construction regarding the Mediterranean context from different fields: art history, visual culture, art theory, artistic practice, cinema, philosophy, sociology, anthropology or\u00a0other related\u00a0disciplines.<\/p>\n<p>The communications may be related to the following work lines:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The current socio-political contexts, their changes in the Mediterranean framework, and the transformations that have occurred in the art field.<\/li>\n<li>The construction and representation of the collective imagination in the contemporaneity that the Mediterranean offers.<\/li>\n<li>Artistic and theoretical projects associated with Mediterranean artists trajectories or works developed on this socio-political context.<\/li>\n<li>Examples of project management, spaces and institutions -including institutional criticism- with transformative character, related to this same framework.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h4 class=\"text-left\">SCIENTIFIC COMMITTEE<\/h4>\n<p>The communications will be selected by a scientific committee made up of experts from the University of Valencia, Polytechnic University of Valencia, Miguel Hern\u00e1ndez University of Elche, Institut Fran\u00e7ais of Valencia and IVAM. The papers\u00a0must be original works, not\u00a0having\u00a0been submitted\u00a0before in another congress.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Awatef<\/strong> <strong>El Ketiti Yahmedi, <\/strong>professor of Audiovisual Communication and publicity area of the University of Valencia<\/li>\n<li><strong>Jos\u00e9 Luis Cueto,<\/strong> Fine Arts Dean of the Polytechnic University of Valencia.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Carmen Garc\u00eda Muriana, <\/strong>Fine Arts professor at the Miguel Hern\u00e1ndez University of Elche<strong>.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong> G\u00e9rard Teuli\u00e8re,<\/strong>\u00a0director of the Institut Fran\u00e7ais of Valencia<\/li>\n<li><strong>\u00c1lvaro de los \u00c1ngeles<\/strong>, deputy\u00a0director of IVAM&#8217;s Cultural Activities and Programs.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Sandra Moros,<\/strong> curator of IVAM.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Communications abstracts must contain between 2.500 and 3.000 characters -spaces included-, besides they should include\u00a0keywords, bibliographical references and the author\u2019s CV (2 pages max.). The accepted languages are Spanish, Valencian and English.<\/p>\n<h4 class=\"text-left\">PUBLICATION<\/h4>\n<p>The selected communications will be part of the conference proceedings publication and will be published in digital format with ISBN. Curator, critic and art theorist. He was co-founder of the Palais de Tokyo in Paris and co-director of the same centre from 1999 to 2006. He was also founder and director of <em>Documents sur l&#8217;Art<\/em> magazine (1992-2000) and correspondent in Paris for <em>Flash Art<\/em> (1987-1995). In 2007 he was appointed, at Tate Britain, as Gulbenkian curator for contemporary art responsible for the Tate Triennial in 2009. He has been director of the \u00c9cole Nationale Sup\u00e9rieure des Beaux-Arts (2011-2015). Of his bibliography highlights titles related to art theory such as <em>Formes de vie. Une g\u00e9n\u00e9alogie de la modernit\u00e9<\/em>, <em>Esth\u00e9tique relationnelle<\/em>, <em>Postproduction<\/em> or <em>Radicant<\/em>, which have been translated into several languages.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Pedro Azara <\/strong>(Barcelona, Spain)<\/p>\n<p>Architect and professor of Aesthetics at the Architecture School of Barcelona. He has carried out several curatorial projects such as <em>Casas del alma<\/em> (1997) and <em>La fundaci\u00f3n de la ciudad<\/em>. <em>Mitos y ritos en el mundo antiguo<\/em> (2000) at the CCCB (Barcelona), <em>Antes del diluvio<\/em>. <em>Mesopotamia 3500-2100 aC<\/em> (CaixaForum, Madrid and Barcelona, 2012-2013) and <em>From Ancient to Modern. Archeology and Aesthetics<\/em> (ISAW, New York, 2015). Among his publications are <em>La imagen y el olvido. El arte como enga\u00f1o en la filosof\u00eda de Plat\u00f3n<\/em> (1995) and <em>Castillos en el aire. Mito y arquitectura en Occidente<\/em> (2002). He is a member of the international archaeological mission of Tell Massa\u00efkh (Syria, 2007-2010), Qasr Shamamok (Iraq, 2011-), IPOA (UB, Barcelona) and ASOR (Chicago).<\/p>\n<p><strong>Beg\u00fcm \u00d6zden F\u0131rat <\/strong>(Istanbul, Turkey)<\/p>\n<p>Associate Professor in the Sociology Department in Mimar Sinan Fine Arts University (Istanbul). She works\u00a0in the fields of visual culture, urban sociology, and social movements studies. She is the co-editor of\u00a0<em>Commitment and Complicity in Cultural Theory and Practice<\/em>\u00a0(2009),<em>\u00a0<\/em><em>Cultural Activism: Practices, Dilemmas, Possibilities<\/em>\u00a0(2011) and\u00a0<em>Resistance and Aesthetics in the Age of Global Uprisings\u00a0<\/em>(2015). Specific mention her book entitled\u00a0<em>Encounters with the Ottoman Miniature Contemporary Readings of an Imperial Art<\/em>\u00a0(2015).<\/p>\n<p><strong>Marie Muracciole <\/strong>(Beirut, Lebanon)<\/p>\n<p>Director of the Beirut Art Center. Image Theory professor in several centers such as the \u00c9cole Sup\u00e9rieure des Beaux Arts\u00a0(Bordeaux) or the Universit\u00e9 of Balamand (Lebanon). From 1991 until 2011 she was head of the Cultural Programs Department at Jeu de Paume in Paris. He has curated exhibitions by artists such as Allan Sekula at Akbank Sanat-Istanbul or Yto Barrada at the Deutsche Guggenheim (Berlin). He regularly collaborates with magazines such as <em>Texte zur Kunst<\/em>, <em>Les Cahiers du Mus\u00e9e d&#8217;Art Moderne<\/em> and <em>Art Press<\/em>. She is editor of Allan Sekula, Yto Barrada and Claude Closky.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Nadira Laggoune <\/strong>(Algiers, Algeria)<\/p>\n<p>Director of MAMA (Mus\u00e9e Public National d&#8217;Art Moderne et Contemporain d&#8217;Alger). Art critic and curator, she is professor of Contemporary Image History at Fine Arts School (Algiers). She has a degree in Law and a Master&#8217;s Degree in Audiovisual Criticism and Art Theory. Specialist in contemporary art, his main research topic is focused on giving visibility to the new artists generations from Algeria and Maghreb. She has been a member of numerous jurors and has organized international exhibitions such as the International Festival d&#8217;Art Contemporain d&#8217;Alger (2009 and 2011), Dak&#8217;Art 10\u00e8me Biennale de l&#8217;Art Africain Contemporain de Dakar (2012) and the BJCEM Biennial, 16\u00e8me Biennale des Jeunes Cr\u00e9ateurs d&#8217;Europe et de la M\u00e9diterran\u00e9e (2013).
